This single-disc release comes housed in a black HD keep case and inside is a 42-page booklet. Pitch Black is a movie I just could not get in to, be it the sloppy/choppy quick editing, weird image stretching effects that were overly employed in the 1990s or the thin story and characters, it’s a film that has garnered plenty of fans. The audio commentary features the director, co-writer, and cinematographer in a low-key running conversation about what’s happening on screen. Marvel and Disney’s 4K disc contains no special features, however you also get the film in 1080p HD Blu-ray in the package. Mid-tier HDR capabilities One by one, the films have redefined the standard for high-flying adrenaline-fueled spycraft action. On 4K, the film flies in for an excellent Dolby Vision transfer, a phenomenal Atmos audio mix, but a thin set of extras. Though Criterion's 2016 Blu-ray remains solid, the enhancements KLSC has brought to its stunning new HDR/Dolby Vision transfer, along with upgraded audio and a solid supplemental package make this the definitive edition of a defining film. So if a more recent interview with Angela Lansbury and two interviews with film scholars are important to you, you'll likely want to hang onto that disc. Though the film was originally released with a mono track, this 2.0 track possesses some definite stereo accents, especially with regard to David Amram's score, which enjoys an expansive feel across the front channels. This short featurette looks at the miniatures and animatics, and compares them with the final versions in the film. We then get another archival featurette from the 2009 blu-ray release. This is a short press-kit promo with interviews with the main cast and crew, mixed in with clips from the film and on-set footage. Also exclusive to this release is the Black Box series of brand-new interviews. This is a frank and open discussion with lots of great behind the scenes insights. When it's obviously film and there's film grain, we can see some pretty high peaks in the bitrate. Those blown-out whites are still there but now there’s a little more dimensionality to the image giving scenes like the first time we see Milo Ventimiglia’s Rocky Jr. some more depth. Maybe not a complete knockout compared to the five previous all-35mm films, but an appreciable enough upgrade. The film really does benefit from both the new 4K scan of the original camera negative and the HDR grade, though the audio is the same 5.1 DTS-HD MA mix found on the previous Blu-ray. Amnesia Chick is by film scholar Josh Nelson, who traces the history of amnesia stories onscreen (many of which were film noir) and how The Long Kiss Goodnight fits in with that tradition while still breaking with it at the same time. Arrow’s Limited Edition 4K Ultra HD release of The Long Kiss Goodnight is a two-disc set that includes a Blu-ray with additional extras—note that there’s no Blu-ray copy of the film itself, and it doesn’t appear that Arrow is offering a separate Blu-ray version, either. Super-35 sometimes had a bad reputation in terms of image quality, but that was due to the fact that release prints were anamorphic blow-ups that magnified the grain. No, there aren’t any big surprises in The Long Kiss Goodnight since it leaves little doubt about what kind of movie that it actually is, but it’s still more enjoyable to discover what’s really happening along with Samantha and Mitch. While it correctly detected whether my car was driving or parked, and switched mode accordingly, it seemed that none of its parking features worked correctly. The iQ is unusual among high-end dash cams in that it has a tiny screen, designed only for showing status messages. This dash cam’s only button is there to let you protect the current video file in the case of an accident or other event. Protect Plus ups the cloud storage to the most recent 180 days, and adds a few features including multiple user support and an SOS mode. You can trigger this with a voice command, upon which the Nextbase iQ will automatically share live video with a trusted contact so they can check you’re OK. Supports SD, HD and 2K DCI Film The second audio commentary with actors John Saxon and Keir Dullea was also recorded in 2002, and it was most definitely recorded in a studio. The track was clearly not recorded in a studio, but it’s nonetheless important to have the director’s thoughts on record since he’s no longer able to provide them. The mono track is obviously flatter, but it’s a more palatable sound experience, for both purists and casual viewers. As restorationist Brett Cameron had no access to the original stems (since they are deemed either lost or missing), he painstakingly cleaned up and adjusted these tracks to more reflect the film’s original soundtrack (a featurette included on Disc Two covers this in more detail). After doing a lot of disc flipping, this 4K UHD release certainly offers a notable uptick in overall resolution. The included Blu-ray disc is the old Universal disc and hasn't been updated from the new restoration sourced for the Criterion disc and what was presumably used for this release. Pressed on a BD-100 disc, the discs are housed in a standard sturdy black 4K case with an identical slipcover. If you've never watched this movie, it's time to mark the time, turn off the phone, and kick back to it. 31 years after this film's theatrical release - Spike Lee's "day in the life" film is just as visceral and shocking and an important conversation starter. At that point, Bay had made only one genuinely bad movie with Pearl Harbor (or two if you count Bad Boys 2). For my take, I thought the film was amusing when I saw it in theaters, but I didn’t love it. However, nearly 20 years later, the jokes work better now for a genuinely hilarious action-packed puppet flick… Maaaaatt Daaaamon. Puppet sex and over-the-top action sequences were hilarious, but skewering world events didn’t always tickle the funny bone. Black Hawk Down - 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Image Stabilization works as does f-stop changes and it also shows the Speed Boost increase in the aperture on the LCD screen. The Lumix works perfectly with the camera. I have a few Canon EF lenses I use on Sony E mount cameras as well as the URSA Mini Pro 4.6K. The Black Falcon Drone captures impressively sharp video footage in 4K, with great contrast and smooth color transitions — especially when combined with its built-in gimbal stabilization. The camera claims were put to the test by users filming in daylight, dusk, and indoor lighting. Get yours today and unlock GPS precision, auto-hover, and real-time video streaming. The GPS-assisted features push the Black Falcon beyond basic remote-controlled drones and into smart drone territory, letting users enjoy automated aerial shots hands-free. The audio is clean and crisp, with only the slight hollowness of Tex Ritter’s recurring song, “Do Not Forsake Me, Oh My Darling,” bearing any signs of the film’s age. Grain is tight and even, and honestly, it’s hard to imagine the film looking any better outside of a genuine 35mm print. The boost in resolution is noticeable throughout all of the numerous, detail-rich close-ups in the film, while the contrast is stellar, as evinced by the wide range of grays and deep, inky blacks within the same shot. Skin-tones are natural, action scenes are handled with smooth and stable motion, and there’s a lifelike quality to the picture that just draws you in. The disc also offers the original mono mix, for purists who want to watch the film as close as possible to the late 50s/early 60s experience. The color in HDR10 is beautiful off the disc, with wide contrast and lossless detail in the highlight and shadow areas. This drone does all the work for you while you sit back and enjoy the amazing footage it captures. And let me just say, the multiple stunning functions like “Spiral Up” and “Catapult” make aerial filming a breeze. As someone new to flying drones, I was relieved to find out that this drone has a beginner mode and optical flow positioning to help me out. The third entry to the series — technically, the sixth if we count the two Alien vs. Predator features — may come with a few visual delights, but saying it's about as good the AVP spinoffs is not much of a compliment. Given the talent behind the production, the bigger mystery of this latest installment to the popular sci-fi horror franchise is trying to figure out where the filmmakers went wrong. The hunt has evolved – and so has the explosive action – in the next chapter of the Predator series, from director Shane Black (Iron Man 3). Porting over the same DTS-HD MA 2.0 mono soundtrack and bonus features as the previous Blu-ray, the overall UHD package is nonetheless recommended and makes for an excellent addition to the Hitchcock collection. The UHD edition ports over the same set of supplements enjoyed on the Blu-ray disc. Other times, the effects blare and blot out the soundtrack. At times, the music blares and blots out the effects. Flesh tones don’t exist in any normal sense, and at times, they’ll clip detail at their brightest. It certainly doesn’t help when Underworld is constructed in monochromatic blue, some of the most aggressive color grading of the early digital era. Bill Nighy and Penelope Winton as Shaun’s mother and stepfather ground the film. You should know that Simon Pegg began here along with Nick Frost and the two have gone on to make other films together and apart. Of course, as we know of any film, let alone a zombie film, Shaun’s plans begin to go awry. They do hint at what exactly is going on with the mantle of Black Panther at the end of the movie, though. Coogler mostly refrains this time, although he falls back into using it towards the end. Somebody has clearly informed Coogler that on the first film’s commentary, he used the phrase “Ya know what I’m sayin’” approximately once every two minutes. There is a commentary track, on the Blu-ray disc only, featuring writer-director Ryan Coogler, writer Joe Robert Cole, and cinematographer Autumn Durald Arkapaw. Told BlackVue that I had wired the camera as per instructions but still draining the battery. Easy to understand features when looking at which unit to purchase. The largest model is ⅔ rack width and features 8 x 12G-SDI inputs with loop outputs, 4 x 12G-SDI outputs and reference input for the clean switch. This model is ½ rack width and features 6 x 12G-SDI inputs with loop out, 2 x 12G-SDI outputs and reference for locking clean switch outputs. It includes a front panel router control panel that also has an emergency 12G-SDI input and USB-C webcam video out! Even the digital video footage looks a little nicer than before so I consider that a win. Overall details are more crisply defined and cleaner looking than the old 1080p disc. Some bits looked a little rougher around the edges, but nothing too distractingly serious - they looked worse when they were just extra features. The Dolby Vision grade, like past films, looks terrific highlighting the drab surroundings while letting key primaries shine. From Rocky suffering in the shower to their move back to the old neighborhood to the notorious street brawl, the film looks terrific. Sometimes taps at the screen aren’t registered, but more often my problem was with swiping into the screen from the edges. My issues with the touchscreen responsiveness still remain, even though there have been firmware updates since my original review – some of which were supposedly designed to address the issue. Wind noise is far more controlled compared to certain other rival action cameras. GoPro did tell us there might “still be some retail inventory of previous cameras”, so it’s possible you’ll be still able to find the GoPro Hero 5 Black on offer. Still, it’s not like the current movie version of Aquaman looks much like the comics, and fans are largely cool with that. Upon testing the Black Falcon 4k Drone, I found that the camera is actually 720p, not the advertised 4K. Shockingly, the same model can be found on AliExpress for under $40, revealing it as an overpriced, basic drone. However, this drone is essentially a rebranded Eachine58, offering only 720p resolution, 7-9 minutes of battery life, and lacking GPS functionality. The Black Falcon 4k Drone has garnered plenty of promoted reviews online, praising it as the best budget-friendly option for both beginners and seasoned users. DISC ONE: FEATURE FILM (UHD) That’s something Hollywood cinematographers are used to but of limited use to most independent filmmakers or hobbyists, apart from going slow for creative, blurry effects.I have to program my viewings because I can not go to bed with this film running in my head.That’s generally the case when a movie get such high marks.The Dolby Vision HDR grade works with these alterations nicely, so the new version of Apollo talking to Rocky about fighting Drago is bright and beautiful with natural outdoor lighting and colors with Rocky’s baby blue shirt.And with features like Follow Me and Waypoint Flight, this drone practically flies itself.The Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera features an innovative and high speed USB-C Expansion Port that operates at up to 5 Gb/s. In an era full of bloated movies, Black Bag’s taut 94-minute running time feels like a refreshing change of pace. Steven Soderbergh’s latest film, Black Bag, arrives on 4K Ultra HD with an accompanying Blu-ray disc and a code for a digital copy. For a mainly talky spy movie, the audio still packs a nice punch to it. Criterion did an amazing job of restoring the theatrical version of the 9x Oscar-winning film in native 4k with Dolby Vision/HDR10. Bernado Bertolucci‘s The Last Emperor (1987) is one film that we’ve been begging for in 4K since the debut of the format in 2016. One of Martin Scorsese’s most impactful dramas arrived on 4k Blu-ray for the first time on April 23, 2024 in a standard plastic edition and Limited Edition SteelBook. At startup, each goes straight to a screen with the usual options, music and full-motion clips of the special features. When redeeming said code, users are granted access to all three films on 4K Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio. For his final journey across time, Marty not only travels into the past but literally jumps into the movies, making it a rowdy good time and an exciting conclusion to one of the coolest, oft-celebrated trilogies in motion picture history. With these discs, the UB154 struck a good balance between sharpening and noise reduction whilst also retaining grain for movie enthusiasts. Using the 4K Blu-ray of Alien and the regular Blu-ray of Thief, I also tested the UB154 to see how it handled older movies with a lot of film grain. The quality was definitely good, with more vivid colors than I expected and clean textures, although some fuzziness could be seen. Played on the UB154, upscaling was effective, and the same dynamic color and brightness punch still jumped from the screen. Let’s discuss this high definition presentation and special features from Focus Features/Universal Pictures! Black Bag makes up with it’s more suspense and thrill approach with all of it’s talent in every department for the movie. His previous film was the smaller ghost story Presence so it’s always nice to see him consistently switching things up. Expect powerful bass, exceptional spatial separation, and immersive effects; dialogue remains crisp even in action-heavy scenes—an exemplary audio presentation. Men in Black's 4K UHD audio is a standout with a dynamic Dolby Atmos mix elevated from the 2017 release, plus the original 5.1 DTS-HD MA track. This almost borders on being like a movie Robert Rodriguez could make in his garage at times.The two discs are housed inside a hard, black plastic case with a cardboard sleeve.Read this review to find out if you should buy the Black Falcon 4k Drone.If you’re trying to use this drone for anything serious, the app alone will likely make you reconsider.It doesn’t speak much about the film itself, but it offers a decent discussion about Batman, Two-Face, Commissioner Gordon, Carmine Falcone, the rogues gallery of villains, and Gilda Dent.There's no screen, and no way of checking your composition on the camera itself, but you can connect your GoPro via Wi-Fi to a smart device to check live composition and clips.Panasonic DP-UB150This entry-level Panasonic 4K Blu-ray player is a fair way short of the quality of its DP-UB820 sibling and the Sony UBP-X700, but it's also significantly cheaper than both.After blowing me away with his thoughtful approach to science fiction with Arrival, and his impressive work with Sicario, Enemy, and Prisoners - I felt that this film at least would be interesting.The elements were there, as anyone who has listened to Waxwork Records’s vinyl release of the film’s soundtrack already knows. In broad strokes, input lag is measured as the time it takes for your monitor to display an external action. Whether you can make out the difference in image quality between a 4K display and, say, a 1440p panel (2,560 by 1,440 pixels) depends on the distance, your eyesight, and the screen size. There is no workable autofocus or image stabilisation, the 120fps is hugely cropped, the battery life still isn’t that great, the file sizes are big and it’s just a huge camera. Use the SDI output and the SDI program return for 2 way talkback between the camera and any SDI ATEM switcher. The program return also includes tally and remote camera control. The HDMI supports video, tally, control and record trigger for a broadcast style workflow using a single HDMI cable. You can even connect a USB-C to Ethernet adapter to control the camera over a network via REST APIs! You also get a USB-C expansion port for recording to external disks or controlling the camera via zoom and focus demands. A code for a digital copy rounds out the release. Casablanca celebrates its 80th anniversary with a sublime 4K UltraHD presentation of the classic film. It’s a nice assortment of special features brought over from Paramount’s Centennial Collection DVD. You’re a solo filmmaker or a small production unit that needs a professional solutionThe Blackmagic Pyxis 6K is clearly built with pro work in mind, and is incredibly versatile.The lettering of advertisements and newspapers is mostly sharp, and background information and objects are quite detailed for most of the runtime.Primary audio is offered in English Dolby Atmos and this time the mix isn’t hobbled by lackluster bass.For those using a hard drive, it’s possible to plug a device into a workstation and edit that footage directly.The front display of my review camera has picked up a scratch and there are a few marks on the edge of the lens’ housing, otherwise, all things considered, it’s done pretty well.First he attempts to join the Avengers to fix everything his way, then when that fails, he portrays himself as a savior, and only time will tell if Marvel Jesus was successful.Aesthetically, the Hero5 Black – which sits above the cuboidal Hero5 Session – packs a neat matte black exterior and remains about the size of a matchbox.All that’s missing from the 2002 Critical Mass DVD release is a longer version of the interview with John Saxon found under the Archival Interviews.You would think with such a large grip the camera could have a larger higher capacity battery but it uses the Canon LP-E6.Facial features, clothing textures, the Philadelphia shooting locations, all earn their time in the ring with a healthy cinematic film grain. DISC TWO: FILM (BD) While the track doesn't provide the kind of sonic fireworks seen in modern films, its subtlety is well-suited to the film's low-key charm, maintaining the delicate balance of humor and pathos that defines the experience. The dynamic range, however, remains relatively modest, which suits the film's understated, organic soundtrack. Gone is the faint background hiss that occasionally marred the previous edition; this time, the sound is clean and crisp, even at higher volumes. It also has real-time transmission capabilities, meaning you can see what your drone sees through your smartphone or remote controller.Arrow have also remastered the director’s cut of Pitch Black, which runs at three minutes longer, and – in a surprising, but welcome move – have included all of this release’s special features on the 4K disc, as opposed to a bonus Blu-ray disc.It’s also fair to suggest that, along with Richard Donner’s original Superman, the film still ranks highly among the finest examples of its genre to date.Longer films need that bitrate breathing room of a BD-100 disc.And it’s tough enough to handle a few bumps along the way.There’s even a free developer SDK with sample code available from the Blackmagic Design developer website, so you can create your own remote camera control and digital slate solutions!The title was the first thing to go, but the script evolved in many other ways before it finally went in front of the cameras under the aegis of Black Lion, a division of Sir Lew Grade’s ITC Entertainment.For instance, I was able to learn about its flight time, range, camera quality, and stability from various reviews before buying it. With that said, it’s unlikely to show crucial details that the best 2K dash cams would miss. If you have a very desirable car, if you often park in a dodgy area or if you just don’t trust your children, then the extra features make this dash cam well worth the asking price. If you just want decent recordings of your driving, give this camera a miss. There is an input for mains power which takes a very secure push fitting, ideal for use on film sets for extended use. The camera can be trickle charged by the USB-C socket but only if you’re not using it to record to an external SSD. It now takes Sony-spec batteries which can be bought in larger capacities, but it’s still power-hungry and you should buy a few – even if you use the battery grip. One issue around the older 6K camera was battery life from its Canon LP-E6 cells and you’d definitely need to carry a pocketful of them for day’s shooting day. REVIEW: Blackmagic 4K Production Camera The setting is distant future movie space opera – space travel is regular, if (with a slight touch of scientific realism) long ship voyages require cryogenic sleep. It comes from a time before the massive cultural influence of The Matrix was fully absorbed. The drone includes propeller guards, GPS tracking with Return Home function, and 6-axis self-stabilization technology to ensure safe and stable flights. Yes, the drone is designed for easy setup with intuitive controls and a straightforward pairing process with the remote and smartphone app. The drone has a flight range of over 3,000 feet (approximately half a mile). The LCD screen is also where you can monitor the focus assist features, and exposure assist features like zebras, focus peaking, false color, histogram, and more. Unlike DSLR and mirrorless cameras of the time, the controls and interface were designed for video-only use and didn’t require wading through still-capture menus to get to basic settings. With mirrorless cameras increasingly embracing high-end video features, is the BMPCC 6K G2 a good value, or is there more benefit in a different system with more “advanced” features? The Hero4 Black is the company's flagship camera targeted at pros and anyone who wants the best damn video you can get from an action cam (more on that later) and is willing to pay for it. It's expensive, the battery life can be brief and the design might not be ideal, but GoPro's top camera continues to lead in video quality. Nextbase’s iQ is a high-end dash cam, enhanced with a set of AI-driven features. The iQ is also very expensive to buy, and you’ll need a paid subscription to enable most of its advanced features. This isn't anything like Cat's Eye or some other problematic 4K releases. Later when Charlie and Rose are on the African Queen and Charlie hilariously kicks the shit out of the boiler for the first time, the sky behind Charlie is now a hazy, smoggy yellowed hue instead of a grayish white like the Blu-ray. Honestly, it comes down to a slight split hair with some of the color timing. Now if only I had a pocket the camera would fit in. For $1,299 it’s practically disposable! Well, my time has come to an end with the Pocket 4K. The captured soldiers are brought behind enemy lines, where they're systematically brainwashed during an intense three-day period by Communist operatives who use Pavlovian methods to control their minds and manipulate their actions. The film opens during a Korean War skirmish in 1952 and depicts the ambush of an American army company by North Korean forces. If any movie from 60 years ago feels like it's ripped from today's headlines, it's this one. Far-fetched yet disturbingly plausible, the movie taps into our inherent mistrust of our political system and feeds off of it, heightening and confirming many of our suspicions. Janet Leigh (Touch of Evil) and Henry Silva (Code of Silence) also play pivotal parts in “one of the best and brightest of modern American films” (Roger Ebert). The Monkey’s Name is Jack is a piece on the monkeys used during filming. 2 hours is a good amount of time with a monitor set to 2500nits.Some are fairly minor – the camera status and Wi-Fi lights that were on the front before are now two small illuminated slits to the left of the LED screen.Once you experience the ultimate quality of shooting in Raw, it’s difficult to accept anything less.Probably not, but then who knows - these aren't expensive films.Too many feel personally slighted, unreasonably disappointed and biasedly preoccupied on the irrelevant details affecting a film's overall plot, which seems to be a growing concern in the last few years in this age of social media.For most people, a little extra color or a larger range of tones don’t really differentiate one screen from another.This means you don’t have to remove the camera from the frame to charge it, or if you need to power the camera for a long period – for a lengthy time-lapse video, for instance – while keeping it mounted.The audio has been completely revamped in both mono and 5.1 surround for a dramatic sonic improvement over preceding Black Christmas releases. As with its HD SDR counterpart, the creative photography lives little room for an extensive or wide variety of colors, keeping to a more neutral, near-monochromatic palette. Admittedly, any issues or perceived drawbacks result from the filmmakers' well-suited deliberate look. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment brings Duncan Jones' Moon to Ultra HD Blu-ray as a two-disc combo pack with a flyer for a Digital Copy, which can be redeemed via sonypictures.com and Movies Anywhere. He longs to return home, but a terrible accident on the lunar surface leads to a disturbing discovery that contributes to his growing sense of paranoia and dislocation so many miles away from home. Highlights read a bit stronger, giving Underworld additional depth, if a minimal upgrade over the early Blu-ray release. And doubly so, that entrenches Underworld’s core values, giving what (at the time) wasn’t yet a franchise the needed baseline to build on. For its villain, Underworld finds Victor, a delightfully brooding Bill Nighy whose inflated egotism rises in the modern day, unaware the world discarded his kind. Instead, it’s the disparity between the two species that now stands out and feels infinitely more prescient. Not only that, but Dryburgh also goes heavy on the tech details about the various cameras used on the production and such. Everyone in the industry has a story about Michael Mann if they’ve worked with him, but Dryburgh is able to speak to just how exacting Mann is on set in achieving the look and feel of the film. Bullets rip through metal and echo throughout, even lingering in the lower end for extended periods of time. Although it’s a tad frustrating that this didn’t get the 4K Ultra HD treatment, I’m just elated to have this cut in HD at all. It’s incredibly clean and clear, with very deep yet detailed blacks. Zero Dark Thirty was shot digitally using ARRI Alexa cameras in the ARRIRAW codec (at 2.8K). Like it or not, “enhanced” interrogation happened and I believe the film simply depicts the process non-gratuitously, with relative fairness and impartially. It’s simply my opinion that the film also isn’t making a judgment on the matter. The interior of the time-variant offices is warm with tons of dark reds, golds, browns, and ambers that are nuanced with the Dolby Vision.Deep black levels help the vibrant colors further pop without veering from the filmmakers’ intended atmosphere.It’s loud, it’s over-the-top, but it’s also a hugely entertaining flick.The Panasonic DP-UB154 is a 4K Blu-ray player that offers multiple playback options, including 4K and regular Blu-ray, DVD, CD and even hi-res audio for a cheap price.With a Micro Four Thirds sensor and lens mount, dual native ISO and a hardware/software combination you would expect to see in a £2,000+ movie camera, the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera 4K looks versatile and capable.You can capture raw images in addition to JPEGs on the Hero 7 Black, and also shoot bursts of images at a maximum 30fps, telling the camera how many images over how long a duration you want it to capture.Because it's an advanced digital film camera, the sensor is designed to reduce thermal noise allowing cleaner shadows and higher ISO.The Green Knight itself has vivid browns and greens where the many nuanced tree-like colors come to life through the Dolby Vision. But the BMPCC 6K G2 doesn’t live in a traditional cinema world; it lives where the norms are run-and-gun style video and handheld video. Blackmagic cameras are built around the design sensibilities of traditional cine shooting, where most cameras would be locked down on a tripod, so any kind of stabilization would come from a lens or a gimbal. But the fact they exist is really nice, as the mechanized ND filter makes on-the-fly adjustments easy and having the filter in the body means you can adjust incoming light for any lens mounted to the camera. In the plus column, I’ll give credit for richer deeper navy blues and a more appealing crimson red for the English naval and soldier uniforms with some nice color pop. Flipping discs repeatedly, these issues aren’t apparent or at least obviously so in the old 2007 Blu-ray. But heavy effects-laden scenes (and there are many) have a smeary texture as if the film grain has been scrubbed out and then added back in. And other than the commentary track, all the supplements are housed in the accompanying Blu-ray disc. Dialogue is also heard at a much lower volume than the rest of the action, often drowned out by the score in many areas or by the action. However, back and forth comparisons make question whether or not the audio was revisited and altered in some way because the two choices are not exactly identical to their predecessors. The Dolby Vision HDR presentation delivers a significantly richer, more sumptuous array of colors, especially a more dramatic and animated selection of reds while secondary hues look more full-bodied and flamboyant. After years of the slasher films that came in its wake, Black Christmas remains one of the most effective (unintentional) entries into the genre.You’ll notice these lines as black outlines around ship models.With skill and stylized camerawork that never feels cheap, Ridley Scott's Black Hawk Down is a terrifying portrait of war and the brotherhood between soldiers.The disc also offers the original mono mix, for purists who want to watch the film as close as possible to the late 50s/early 60s experience.Those misgivings aside overall I’d square this as a better presentation than the 1080p disc.The film feels like a love letter to 1970s crime cinema, especially with Grier’s casting as a nod to her blaxploitation roots. All discs are region-free - the 4K is a BD-66 disc with the 1080p version picking up a BD-50 disc. Wonder Woman 1983 and the theatrical Justice League are far worse DCEU films than this one. The slow-mo action scene with Paint it Black looked like it could have been exciting, but with that song, it was just eye-rolling. This was a lynchpin of the film’s marketing that does little and sadly will no longer go anywhere. When the villain shows up I knew it was the villain and it was a painfully long wait well into the second act before he revealed his true identity - that we already knew about because we saw the opening of the movie. When you’re shooting 4K video with 12-bit colors, the BMPC4K produces very flexible footage, which helps when color grading in post. The BMPC4K also has built-in fans to keep things cool while you’re filming, something many multi-function DSLRs and mirrorless cameras lack. I found myself using my hand to shade the screen from time to time. Despite Sony announcing it will end production of recordable Blu-ray discs earlier this year the format is still alive and well.
