The camera works with the free Olympus Image Share app, available for iOS and Android devices, to copy JPG images or videos to your phone or tablet. You can tap it to set a focus point, or to focus and fire, and it's possible to swipe through and zoom in on images during playback. The functions accessible via the four-way controller include exposure compensation, the flash output settings, the drive mode, and the active focus point. So on the upper left side you have the drive, flash, focus and metering buttons with a power switch retro-styled to look like a film rewind lever. With last year’s EM1X occupying the top-spot in the OMD range, the EM1 III now sits between it and the more consumer-oriented EM5 series, but still aims high by sharing many features with the flagship. Olympus Pen-FV review – Less is more (literally) – By Tim Lebedin Another part of value are the competitors and other versions of pre-workout products on the market.I can’t believe I had overlooked Olympus’s old DSLR’s.One major advantage the E-PL5 has over the EOS M though is that it’s AP2 accessory port is compatible with the Olympus VF2 electronic viewfinder, which slides into the hotshoe.Having a non-giant camera makes it far more likely that I will take it with me when I’m leaving the house and to actually use it while I’m out.Almost every camera these days has good IS, but the smaller sensor in Micro Four Thirds cameras just makes them so much easier to stabilize – and shooting feels a lot more sturdy as a result.Consumer-friendly features include iAuto mode with ‘Live Guide’ results-based controls for easy manipulation of colour and exposure controls.I wouldn’t recommend this camera for beginners, without careful shooting anyone might be disappointed as it’s a tricky camera to shoot – but get it right and you’ll get so much satisfaction. It’s also quoted as running at 120Hz, although I’ll have to wait for my final review to check whether the refresh varies with resolution or mode. The decent-sized and tactile thumb and finger dials remain, although are now embedded into the body rather than sitting on top. Meanwhile on the right are a chunky lockable mode dial and buttons for exposure compensation and movie recording, the latter doubling as a toggle for the High Res composite mode. It’s unsurprisingly closest in style to the EM1 Mark III, a model that continues to sell for roughly two thirds the price of the new OM-1. Aside from that the effect of stopping down is much the same as at the centre, with slight improvements to contrast and sharpness providing the best results at f5.6 and f8 and a marked deterioration at f16 and f22. The diffraction at f16 results in more significant softening and at the minimum f22 aperture there’s what you could call a serious lack of sharpness. In the centre at f2.8 there’s plenty of detail and contrast is good. The speed point is worth highlighting - there is no quicker camera than a fixed focus and the PEN E series represents a key step for true point and shoot cameras that wouldn't be advanced until the Konica C35 AF arrived in the late seventies. At those sizes the circles of confusion are not readily apparent and diffaction is not intrusive.Apertures of around f9 to f11 were standard in fixed focal length point and shoot cameras, but are also the apertures of choice for most street photographers using varifocal lenses at hyperfocal distances, who aim for as large a depth of field as possible before optical aberrations become obvious. The EE-2 is a middling kind of camera optically, with an aperture chosen to render an image sharply at the kind of print sizes then popular, which was usually 7 x 5" or less, and maxed out at 10 x 8". What denotes acceptable depends on a number of variables, but primarily image size and viewing distance. All lenses exhibit image circles of increasing size the further they are from the focal node, but those limitations have been understood since photography's earliest days. Closing and locking is the reverse procedure and although there’s no on-screen warning if the lock isn’t engaged or even if the door is opened while the camera is switched on, there’s little chance of this happening as long as you remember to engage the lock. This may share the same resolution as the PEN F sensor, but is a new component with embedded phase-detect AF points and faster data readout to support the 60fps shooting modes and 4k video; Olympus also claims there’s improved dynamic range in highlights. Tapping Remote Control lets you see a live image from the camera and refocus it by tapping on your phone or tablet’s screen. Sadly there’s no faster 1080p rates for significant slow motion, but the camera can conform footage to playback at lower frame rates than the capture rate for modest slowdowns – for example capturing at 60p, but playing back two and half times slower at 24p. Olympus pretty much invented in-camera filters and the E-PL7 of course includes the full range of Art filters plus the Photo story composite mode in addition to the standard fully auto and PASM exposure modes. A new control dial has been added, improving the handling and the E-PL7 also adds built-in Wifi for transferring photos to your phone and remote control of the camera. Probably the biggest physical change on the E-PL7 is a new 3in touch screen that tilts into a forward facing position for selfie shooting. Previously there were three PEN ranges with the E-PL models sitting in the middle, but with no new budget or higher end options announced for some time it looks like the E-PL will exclusively take the range forward. So it’s no surprise that in the PEN E-P5 it produces sharp highly detailed results.The Olympus TOUGH TG-6 is the latest incarnation of the company’s massively popular rugged waterproof model.Did I wish I had something more capable when I was shooting the images shown in this article?It feels at least as fast in single-shot AF mode as any pro SLR.The mirrorless compact system camera market now offers more choice than ever before and, with the addition of Canon’s EOS M it promises to become even more crowded.Moving on, the EM1 Mark II inherits the interval timer of the EM1, offering up to 999 frames at intervals from one second to a second shy of 25 (yes, 25) hours, and with an initial delay again up to a second short of 25 hours.For my usual shutter therapy session out on the streets of sunny Kuala Lumpur, I rarely needed anything beyond ISO 200, and the bright and a tad harsh sunlight helped improve the focusing efficiency of the camera.In that respect the Mark III looks pretty strong, but coming from the other direction there’s no getting away from the fact it’s not hugely different from the Mark II.Yes, Epicatechin can often be combined with other supplements such as natural anabolics, test boosters, pre workouts, protein, creatine, amino acids, etc. It’s capable of up to ISO at full 12 megapixel resolution, but you’ll need to adjust the ISO limit for it to select anything above 1600 ISO; then again if you take a look at my high ISO test results, maybe Olympus had the right idea for the defaults. Has imaging technology improved that much over the years that cameras from only a few years ago have become truly obsolete? It was a fun camera to shoot with, and I still enjoy using it. Barring a few extremely, fast paced action shots, not really. This was especially true when shooting close up portraits! With the quality set to Large Fine JPEG, I fired-off 48 frames in 0.92 seconds for a rate of 52fps before the rate slowed to 8 to 10fps. With the card switched to Slot-2, I managed 56 frames in 3.59 seconds for a rate of 15.6fps, but this time the burst took 20 seconds to write. Switching to RAW in Sequential High with Single AF, and with the card in Slot-1, I managed 95 frames in 6.14 seconds for a rate of 15.5fps; this burst took six seconds to write to the card after I stopped shooting. With the same card in Slot-2, I managed 74 frames in 4.83 seconds, before the camera slowed down. Before concluding this section, I wanted to perform some formal timing tests on the burst modes to measure what’s possible and also the impact of using the different card slots. The video capabilities are similarly matched with the GF6 offering a 1080i50 best quality mode and the E-P5 1080p30. Where The PEN is a retro-stlyed model that harks back to the glory days of the 35mm half-frame PEN-F, the Lumix GF6 carries no such baggage. As such they share the same sized sensor (albeit from different manufacturers), the same 16 Megapixel resolution and the same lens mount. Compared to Canon EOS M Photos can be imported to a smartphone at their orginal resolution or a range of smaller sizes down to 1024×768, but everything has to go via the phone app, there’s no way to backup files directly to a computer using either a peer to peer connection or via a wireless LAN. Once connected, you can remote control the camera, import photos to your phone, apply Art filters, (but not crop or edit in any other way) and share to Facebook, Twitter, email, or simply back to your phone. It’s a different approach to that of the Lumix GF6 which can be fully controlled via the very capable touch-screen interface. So if you’re not a fan of Art filters or the new Photo story mode, you can assign them to a more useful custom set up. You can also adjust recording levels to one of three positions and there’s a 3-position wind-cut filter. It’s said to be incredibly potent and helps with vasodilation and stimulates blood flow to the muscles. Massacr3 is a new supplement that has been designed by some of the best minds in the industry of sports supplements. Massacre is designed to give you the body and muscles you want, without being dangerously risky like taking steroids or other banned substances. That may not be terribly inconvenient for 30 second exposures, but if you’re shooting for, say, four minutes, it can be excruciating to wait another four minutes just for the additional noise reduction frame.If you’re unfamiliar with the half frame the camera use conventional 35mm film but takes shots with a frame size of 24x18mm (essentially 2 shots per standard frame).As soon as you fully depress the shutter, the most recent 14 frames are committed to your card and the camera keeps shooting as you keep the button pressed.At the time of writing, Micro Four Thirds had over 75 lenses available from Panasonic and Olympus along with third parties including Sigma, Tamron, Samyang, Voigtlander and others.The image above was taken with the Olympus PEN E-PL5.The camera was set to Aperture priority mode with the aperture set to f4 and the sensitivity was set to 200 ISO.It brings up a side menu that allows you to control the stabilization mode, color output, white balance, drive mode, aspect ratio, still and video quality, flash settings and compensation, the metering pattern, autofocus mode, and ISO.3 million words and 6,500+ images in 1,700+ posts.What’s obvious straight away is its static AF speed.There’s no hood supplied with the Olympus, but Leica includes a classy metal hood that may be short, but is very effective in use.Even MT has a great, must-read article about shot discipline, which emphasizes critical timing and technique relevant to all gear choices. I do wonder if all of this intelligence could just be wrapped-into a single object tracking mode though. I took the EM1X to Donington to shoot proper cars on a racetrack and all the photos I’ll show you were taken with the 300mm f4 lens for a 600mm equivalent field of view. I’m using continuous AF with tracking here and with face and eye detection enabled, which now uses the phase-detect system. Choose a supplement from a reputable brand known for their commitment to quality and safety. Individual needs, current body weight, existing health conditions, and other supplements being taken may affect the appropriate dosage. And it’s specifically very effective at helping people during bulking cycles. It all adds up to a great new fun feature which I think will have wide appeal, and Olympus takes these modes serously, so they’re not tucked away on a menu somewhere but are both allocated dedicated positions on the mode dial. Olympus was one of the first manufacturers to include in-camera filters in anything more advanced than a point and shoot compact and those on the PEN E-PL7 are among the best and most versatile around. No review of an Olympus PEN would be complete without taking a look at the varous effects modes on offer. The Olympus Viewer 3 software can’t access the camera even when you’re connected to it via Wifi, which is a shame. New to the latest version of the app is the ability to configure a basic interval timer or trigger a 15 second movie recording. I'm so happy that I found Olympus labs! The websit... You can film in Program, Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority or full Manual exposure modes. The bottom line is 4k UHD is resolving a lot more than 1080p, while Cinema 4k resolves a little more still. Note how fine details in the Cinema 4k crop are slightly better resolved than the 4k version; this is a combination of having slightly more pixels horizontally, a higher bit-rate and possibly more favourable scaling. But if you’re on a budget and can live without refinements like the bigger viewfinder, focus peaking, 1/8000, and intervalometer, the OM-D E-M5 is a bargain waiting to be snapped up. The E-P5 also lacks the E-M5’s HLD-6 Power Battery holder, which offers more controls and doubles the length of time for which you can shoot, along with its innovative two-stage optional grip. I’m not sure I could tell if the AF was faster as claimed, but the E-P5’s focus peaking is a definite benefit. The 5-axis stabilisation on the E-P5 now has an auto mode that can tell when you’re panning along with a option to select priority for Panasonic lenses with built-in stabilisation. The E-P5 has substituted that for a new screen that’s the same size and proportions and is also touch sensitive, but has a higher resolution 1.03 million dot LCD panel which, like the E-M5’s flips up and down for composing at unusual angles. Sure the two Sync-IS lenses are steadiest of all, but I have no complaints with the other lenses I tried. I had the chance to film 4k video with both of the Sync IS compatible lenses and have included clips with these – not to mention other lenses – in the following compilation. Previously the original EM1 offered four stops of compensation which the EM5 Mark II boosted to five. While Panasonic and Sony now also steadily improving built-in stabilisation, Olympus remains at least one step ahead and the EM1 Mark II is no different. Which brings me to the built-in stabilisation, which remains a highlight of the Olympus system. The OM-3 starts off well at low sensitivities, but as ISOs rise and noise inevitably becomes more visible, its smaller sensor starts to struggle in comparison to the APS-C Fujifilm and Nikon cameras. Despite having roughly the same 20MP megapixel count as the APS-C Nikon Z fc, yet packed onto a smaller MFT sensor, the OM-3's images are so sharp that it manages to resolve more fine detail at higher ISOs. Since the OM System OM-3 is largely identical to the OM-1 Mark II, I mainly messed around with the S&Q modes while shooting with a few different filters and presets in the first video. The E-PL5 has no fewer than 8 positions on the flash mode menu – Auto, Redeye, Fill in, Flash off, Red-eye slow, Slow, Slow 2, and Full.Though the company has been producing waterproof cameras for a lot longer, the popular TOUGH series was launched in 2009.As I’ll talk more about below, this camera is basically the guts of the E-M5 put inside a smaller body with a few less pro features on the outside.It's a control scheme that is common in PEN cameras, and one that I've never quite gotten used to.Firmware updates released in 2025 have enhanced the menu’s clarity and added new features, such as improved wireless connectivity and refined Art Filter controls.Set to Normal by default, it has High Key and Low Key options used for those Scene modes, and Auto, which uses Olympus’s Shadow Adjustment technology to optimise the tonal curve to provide more detail in the highlights and shadows.File transfer speeds are solid, and the app rarely loses connection, which is a welcome improvement.This is an excellent natural supplement in the form of a highly concentrated dark chocolate extract. Thirdly, you have to take the excellent lenses into consideration. Once you raise the ISO on the E-1 (ISO 100 to 3.200 available), the amount of noise is increasing significantly faster than in newer cameras. I could not believe it myself until I tried it out and was astounded by the quality of the prints! First of all the color rendition of the Kodak sensor is amazing. But there are some things to take into consideration before coming to a premature conclusion. The E-P3 provides the option of selecting the focus area by pressing the right side of the main dial which was useful on occassions. One of the great things about wandering through a market like this with the E-P3 is you’re not at all conspicuous and can snap away more or less unnoticed, particularly surrounded, as you are, by tourists touting hulking big DSLRs with long zooms attached. When you use Program shift the P indicator is appended with a small s to indicate the shifted exposure, which is a nice touch. This duplicates the function of the top position on the main dial, so I re-assigned it to IS mode, allowing me to turn the IS off and conserve battery power for general use, but quickly activate it for shots indoors and in low light. Turning the screen off would likely make a significant difference to the battery life and pressing the Fn1 button to turn it on if needed took a fraction of a second It's not that expensive, and it automatically copies photos to your iOS or Android device via Wi-Fi.This was lifted from their zone focus brother the PEN EES, a camera that was used as the basis of the mighty Olympus Trip 35.It’s also forward-thinking to find a USB-C port on the camera, and Olympus thoughtfully supplies a USB-C to Type-A cable so you can connect it to older systems not yet equipped with USB-C.On the back of the camera is a 3-inch, tilting, LCD touch screen.Olympus Capture offers a wealth of features and control, letting you see a large live image on your PC or Mac, along with adjusting almost every setting or manually focusing all by remote control. User feedback consistently highlights satisfaction with the E P7’s output, especially for those upgrading from older Micro Four Thirds cameras. Compared to earlier Olympus sensors, there is a noticeable improvement in both resolution and low-ISO sharpness. Whether you shoot landscapes, portraits, or street scenes, the E P7’s capabilities in these areas define the camera’s real-world value. It’s simple and it works, making it possible to select any menu option without the need for finger pushing. If I were to make one criticism it would be that the controls are quite small and tightly packed with little space between them making operation with gloves on a bit of a challenge. It’s ready to take shots or video within about a second of switching it on and the AF responds swiftly in pretty much all circumstances, even in low light. When you’re trying to take pictures in difficult circumstances, for example when you’re running short of breath, or being pounded by heavy surf, you need a camera that provides accessible features and responds quickly. For another, these aren’t ‘real’ apertures, the TOUGH TG-2 uses a neutral density filter to restrict the light hitting the sensor rather than a physical aperture diaphragm. After about day 7 that energy wore down a bit as my body adjusted to the higher stim level. This helps improve focus and increase energy. This is the precursor to nitric oxide in the body, which will increase blood flow. They do it again with I Am Supreme Black Magic Edition. It gives the user the strongest pumps of nearly any supplements on the market according to the creators of Olympus Labs Massacr3. Olympus PEN E-P5 screen and viewfinder So if you have both of these lenses you’ve got the field covered from a 24mm wide angle up to a 300mm telephoto with a constant f2.8 aperture throughout, not to mention weather-proofing. It makes sense within the Olympus Micro Four thirds lens range though, as it picks up where the first Pro lens – the M.Zuiko 12-40mm f2.8 Pro – leaves off. I’ve mentioned how well balanced the M.Zuiko mm f2.8 Pro feels when attached to the OMD EM1, the internal zoom mechanism means the the front of the lens doesn’t extend when you turn the zoom ring, maintaining the same overall length and balance. The mm f2.8 Pro is supplied with a lens hood which attaches to the front of the lens via the usual bayonet mount, but has a unique retracting design. It feels just right, not just when carrying it around but when you raise the camera to your eye and shift your left hand from the tripod mount to the zoom ring. Like the E-M5 and E-PL5, the EP-5 provides automatic exposure bracketing up to 5 frames in 1/3, 2/3 and 1EV increments and a seven frame option at 1/3 and 2/3EV. The new features aren’t limited to fun, there’s plenty to appeal to the serious photographer too. The layout is displayed on screen as you shoot with the Live view displayed in the current frame so you can see exactly what you’ll get and if you don’t like it you can delete your shot and try again. There are two frame sets available, Standard and Fun, (though the distinction is pretty arbitrary) with a total of seven layout variations between them. Launched in 1998, the PowerShot A5 was arguably Canon's first good-looking consumer digital camera. Switching the video mode to 720p or even VGA resolution improves things, but only marginally. The processing required to apply these effects to 1080i video reduces the frame rate to a jittery frame-or-so-a-second. There are other binoculars on the market with the same clarity & magnification that could fit your face more comfortably. Once again, the down side to these binoculars is that their large magnifying power results in a shaky image unless you can steady the binoculars while viewing an object. However, in order to get a crisp image, the binoculars need to be held with elbows supported against the rib cage. Prohormone supplements are designed to rapidly build muscle and strength with gains that would take a year being possible in weeks. Whether it’s Fisheye, ultra wide, fast aperture, macro, super-zoom or good old general-purpose, the Micro Four Thirds catalogue has it covered – find out more in my Micro Four Thirds lens guide. Indeed if you were to leave it fitted all the time, you may well ask yourself if the (admittedly slightly lower quality) built-in viewfinder of the OM-D E-M5 would make that model a better bet than the combination of E-P5 and VF-4. Following the accessory port, the other enhancements to the E-P2 over the E-P1 are more modest, although still useful. Like that model, the E-P2 is equipped with a decent-sized screen at 3in, but one with a disappointingly average 230k resolution. However good it is though, remember like all electronic viewfinders, the clean, smooth image under bright conditions will become noisy and less fluid in low light. It should also be noted the extra bulk of the VF-2 mounted on the E-P2 didn’t prevent it from fitting in any of the bags or pockets we’d used with the camera body alone. While more concrete evidence is still being researched regarding its improvement of sleep quality, Valerian enhances the neurotransmitter GABA which is responsible for lowering brain cell activity. The E-PL7 is always setup as the access point and, though you can connect to it with devices other than your phone, there’s no way to access images other than with the app. If you choose to record movies remotely with the camera you can’t touch the screen to reposition the AF area or pull-focus – something that is possible on Panasonic Lumix G cameras. Impressively you can remotely change the exposure mode between Program, Aperture Priority, Shutter Priority, Manual, iAUTO, ART and movie without touching the camera’s mode dial. Ultimately I preferred manual focusing with the Olympus thanks to the pull-back mechanism and looser ring, but I certainly don’t have any complaints regarding the Leica in this regard – it offers a very satisfactory manual focusing experience. The Olympus 17mm also has a manual focusing ring, although sporting a unique pull-back mechanism which switches it between AF and MF. But again to hear any difference you’d need to either be recording video or holding the cameras to your ears in a silent room – they’re both pretty quiet. Also one of the best testosterone boosters on the market. This is a good cheaper choice if you want to reap the benefits of epicatechin without spending too much money. With the 14-42mm ‘Pancake’ powered zoom fitted, it will fit comfortably in a handbag or even a jacket pocket, and is a little more portable than the Fujifilm X-A5 which has a similar sized body, but larger lenses. The AF system has also been upgraded to 121 points covering most of the frame, and the EPL9 now also includes Bluetooth to make Wifi connections to your phone for remote control and photo transfer easier; I’m confirming about the GPS implementation. In terms of handling and ultimate image quality we’d have to say not. Make sure you check exactly which lenses are being offered by your supplier though, as some substitute the Zuiko Digital models for others. The best part is you can happily switch between the two lenses without ever worrying about getting dust on the sensor. Throw in the anti-dust system and you’ve got a camera which looks strong against the competition. Interestingly, while the E-500’s roughly the same size as the Canon, improved ergonomics make it more comfortable to hold, and of course it also sports a considerably larger screen. This makes it easier to produce a compact sealed lens unit, but one of the drawbacks of folded optics is that they tend not to have bright maximum apertures. The Pen E P7 typically retails around $799 with a kit lens, positioning it as a strong value given its build quality, IBIS, and lens ecosystem. Despite the E-M1 II’s relatively small size, Olympus has managed to squeeze on a lot of external controls without making them feel cramped. Inside the body is a 20.4-megapixel Live MOS sensor measuring 17.3 x 13mm, with an ISO range of ‘Low’ to 25,600. But let’s get back to that continuous shooting capability. In our tests, the GF1’s face detection also proved more reliable than the E-P2, with the Olympus often focusing just in front of the identified face when the subject was turned slightly. As such you’re looking at roughly one second to autofocus with the 17mm f2.8 lens under ideal conditions, which still makes it slower than the GF1. Arguably the most important of them concerns improvements to the autofocus, at least in terms of capabilities if not actual speed. But none of the images were of a quality where I wanted to print them out and frame them. The automatic aperture of the camera ensures that there’s always an element of not knowing if your focus will be bang on. It’s certainly compact compared to a DSLR, but measuring 121x70x35mm for the body alone (without any lens mounted) and weighing 385g with battery and card, it’s definitely on the chunky side of the compact market. Image quality despite the smaller frame size is till pretty good thanks to modern film and scanning (it’s not far off APS-C size and about twice the frame size of 110 and as I’ve said you get 72 shots) It’s also possible to switch to a Remote Shutter option which dispenses with the live image and exposure controls to simply present a large shutter release control, complete with a locking slider. The zoom on both cameras was set to its maximum wide angle, 14mm (28mm equivalent) on the PEN E-PL5 and18mm (29mm equivalent) on the EOS M, providing an approximately equivalent field of view. The question is are these differences merely down to processing, or is the Olympus E-PL5 Micro Four Thirds sensor recording more detail than the APS-C sensor in the Canon EOS M? This customization made it more comparable to 16mm’s and increased the speed of my drives. The Engage Pursuit Pro1 is the most comparable but lacks the Olympus’s fuller feel. But, let’s be very clear, this is still a thin paddle. Unlike recent power paddles, you don’t have to only focus on babying the ball. Now the EM1 Mark II improves on both of them with 5.5 stops of body-based compensation, but you can extend it further still by exploiting the optical stabilisation of compatible lenses simultaneously. Note when remote-recording video using either Capture on a computer or OI Share on a smartphone, you’re limited to 1080p – there’s no remote triggering of 4k video, even if you’re asking the camera to only record it internally. As mentioned above, the controls on the EM1 Mark II are virtually identical to the Mark I. As such there’s a mode dial with a ballpoint-pen style push-button lock to prevent it from accidentally turning. A new 121-point embedded phase-detect AF system covers a larger area of the frame than before and all are cross-type sensors that work alongside a contrast-based system for both Single and Continuous AF and for Micro and older Four Thirds lenses; Panasonic lenses are supported. Using your phone you can remotely change the exposure mode between iAUTO, Program auto, Aperture priority, Microscope, and Scene mode without touching the camera’s mode dial. In terms of shutter sound, I’d say the EM1 Mark II’s shutter sounds slightly higher-pitched and a little quieter than its predecessor – it’s a satisfying click. Oh and if you want a delay with the Anti Shock, you can’t use the normal self-timer as it’s on the same drive menu – instead you’ll need to set any delay in a separate menu. Again like the EM5 Mark II before it, the High Res mode on the EM1 Mark II switches the camera to an electronic shutter (for speed and stability) and fires its eight shots in about a second. If you’re saving the High Res images in the RAW format, you’re looking at 60MB for the RAW file itself, plus another 20MB or so for the accompanying ORI file (which again is simply the first frame in the sequence saved as backup in case the composite doesn’t work out). The camera features Face Priority and Eye Priority autofocus, which is helpful for stills photography, but the contrast detect AF system means that it will sometimes struggle to follow faces in video mode, particularly if you have a busy background. Likewise the video is ideal for the E-PL10 market, enabling you to record good quality 4K or 1080p footage whether you're shooting in the fully automatic mode or you want to go manual to maintain a cinematic 24fps look. Alas, it’s the same two-axis system from the earlier E-PL3, presumably the mechanical components for the five-axis system are either to large to fit the smaller E-PL5 body, or too expensive, or both. In HD movie modes it’s a different story though, here the movie image fills the screen with information overlayed. A visible reduction in volume as a result of scarring and the body’s resorption of the coagulated tissue can be expected after three weeks. These include the movie mode and quality settings, exposure and AF modes (including Face priority modes), processing options (Picture mode) ISO sensitivity, and audio recording. Olympus still doesn’t completely understand video features though as the new focus peaking is only available when shooting still photos on the E-P5, when it could have also been so useful for video too. Raw transfer isn't supported, so you'll need to shoot in Raw+JPG if you want to capture images in that format and have the ability to copy photos over to your handheld device. There's also a magnifying glass button which zooms in on a section of the frame as a focus aid. It also includes shutter and aperture control, but expressed as Blur Background and Express Motions so that users who don't know photographic terms backward and forward can better understand them. The dial is located on the top plate surrounding the shutter button, between the standard mode dial and the power button. But the E-PL7's screen doesn't swing up above the camera like others; instead it moves downward, so that it's positioned at the bottom when facing forward. And a previous winner in this category, the Olympus OM-D E-M10, is still our favorite entry-level body with a Micro Four Thirds lens mount. With a magnification power of 10, the Troopers provide a powerful punch in tandem with an optical lens size of 50. As mentioned above, the Olympus Trooper 10x50 provides one of the crispest and clearest images of all of the binoculars tested. In terms of focus breathing, all three lenses were virtually bereft of any magnification changes when focusing from the furthest to the nearest and back again at either end of the range. Close the Leica to f2.8 and this darkening becomes greatly reduced and there’s also a minor boost in sharpness that by f4 has become crisper overall than the Olympus at the same aperture. In particular, Panasonic’s Lumix G cameras offer a variety of frame rates and resolutions, even allowing 4k at smooth rates. Sticking with the subject of multiple exposures, the EM1 Mark II also lets you combine two images on a single frame. You’ll note the two latest lenses, the mm PRO and 50mm PRO are not included on the list and mounting them will see focus-stacking greyed-out. This is fine, but annoyingly it prevents you from implementing the self-timer to avoid camera shake, and it’ll ignore any Anti Shock delays too. Following on from the success of my low-light shooting inside the Abbey I thought I’d try some night shots. I set both models to Aperture priority mode and selected f5.6 and they both metered an exposure of 1/500. Both cameras were mounted on a tripod and stabilisation was disabled, the sensitivity was manually set to the 200 ISO base sensitivity setting. Because of its physically larger APS C sensor The X-A5’s X-system lenses are a little larger than the E-PL9’s Micro Four Thirds lenses. Both screens flip forwards to face you for selfies, but whereas the X-A5’s screen folds above the camera body, the PEN E-PL9’s goes in the opposite direction and appears below. The EPL9 sensor is also stabilized within the body, allowing it to significantly reduce camera-shake with any lens you attach. As on the OM-D E-M5, Mode 1 is the full works, 5-axis stabilisation, while Modes 2 and 3 are confined to a single axis for horizontal and vertical panning respectively and you can turn the stabilisation off for when the camera is mounted on a tripod. While both Olympus and Panasonic share the same lens mount though, they take different approaches to stabilisation. So while many rival mirror-less formats are struggling to offer even one lens in every category, Micro Four Thirds typically has two or more options available. As of mid 2013, Micro Four Thirds had over 40 lenses available from Panasonic and Olympus along with third parties including Sigma, Tamron, Samyang, Voigtlander and others. The Zuiko 50mm f/2 Macro is one of the best lenses for the FourThirds system. The wide range of relatively inexpensive FourThirds lenses leaves nothing to be desired. You have to take into consideration though that I took the images at 100 ISO, where there is no noise at all visible in the pictures. Five megapixel seems very little at first glance, even inferior compared to nowadays smartphone cameras. The two other AF-points to the left and right are accurate as well but require horizontal lines to or a slight turning of the camera when focusing on vertical lines. You can adjust the exposure while filming, but there’s no way of doing it silently from the camera itself – there’ll always be the sound of button or dial clicks. Here’s another comparison at 240 seconds using a 3-stop ND filter, but this time with the LIVE feature enabled. I’m pleased to say many cameras now offer Bulb timers, but what continues to make the Olympus bodies special are the optional Live modes for Bulb and Time. The EM1 Mark II lets you set different limits to Bulb and Time and you can also now separately configure the screen / EVF brightness when shooting in Bulb or Time modes – a considerate step to protect night vision as well as allowing you to better-judge exposure on-screen. The shooting buffer is pretty decent too—it can grab 18 JPG, 16 Raw, or 15 Raw+JPG images before slowing down.To flip the screen downwards or forwards you must first push downwards against a spring before pulling the screen out.Viewed in isolation, many of the bad points could easily outweigh the good ones for some people, but to truly measure the E-500 you have to compare it against the competition.Starting at 100%, one 29 minute 4k UHD clip saw the battery reduce to 91%, the second to 73%, the third to 53%, the fourth to 32% and finally the fifth virtually consumed what was remaining, leaving just enough for a minute or so on a sixth clip.Out of them 3, yes 3 are reliable sources of testosterone stimulation.If you’re looking for an amazing tasting protein powder that also features high quality, fully disclosed protein sources, then Superior Protein is the king. Build quality is good but expect to have to replace the seals and the same issues that affect Trips apply here (sticky aperture blades etc). It’s not without issues though. The camera also is cable and standard tripod threaded and you have both hotshoe and PC sync options for flash (at 1/40 sec). The Kodak CCD image sensor renders colors differently from the modern CMOS sensors in cameras these days, and worked very well for skin tones. Despite having only 5 Megapixels, the image quality still holds it own, even viewing them on the Quad HD 32 inch LCD screen I am currently working on. To compound matters, it was almost impossible to review my images for critical focus accuracy, because the screen is a tiny 1.8 inch LCD with 134k pixels! Using the E-1 for about 3 hours shooting in a local wet market, I realized how much I missed the feeling of a much beefier grip on the camera body. That makes it the clear winner if 4K quality is a must have – the X-A5’s 4K mode is really only good for the 8 Megapixel 15fps burst shooting modes it provides. Under a hinged door on the right side of the body are a micro HDMI port and a proprietary USB / AV port. There’s no longer a control wheel built into the four-way controller and the absence of the cylindrical thumbwheel makes space for a generous thumb-rest. But probably the most significant physical change is the addition of two new control wheels, a Sub dial at the front below the shutter release and a thumb-operated Main dial at the rear. On the top panel, the control layout has undergone some modifications, the most obvious change being the substitution of an OM-D E-M5-style on/off switch for the on/off button of earlier PEN models. Overall I think the new model looks even better, but the grip is a bit insubstantial, the ridge on the gently sloping front is slight and it feels insecure compared with the more pronounced lip on the Panasonic Lumix GF6. Here’s where the dual stabilisation really comes into its own, doing a great job of keeping things steady. Otherwise, the quality is excellent, though there a visible shift in the white balance part way through. There’s also a wide range of Art filter effects including among others, Pop, Art, Cross Process, Dramatic Tone, Key Line, Vintage, Partial Colour, and the newly introduced Bleach Bypass and (above) Instant Film. Quality is just OK; details aren't as sharp as I've seen with more recent mirrorless cameras, and the sound of the in-camera stabilization system is audible on the soundtrack. If you're more serious about images you can shoot in Raw format. When shooting JPGs at default settings, the camera keeps noise under 1.5 percent through ISO 6400, which is what you expect from a Micro Four Thirds camera. The XZ-2’s sensitivity range tops out at ISO , but you wouldn’t want to venture beyond 1600 ISO other than in exceptional circumstances. The text on the 1600 ISO crop from the XZ-2 is already illegible which rules it out for general purpose shooting. Having switched completely over to the OM-D system, I’ve been using an electronic viewfinder for at least 5 years now, so it was strange to revert back to an optical viewfinder. The stark difference in shooting experience was from the optical viewfinder. While I have always championed the smaller and lighter camera alternative, nothing beats a sturdy, comfortable and ergonomically optimized grip. The TOUGH TG-2’s mode dial contains a Program Auto position, iAuto, Super Macro, SCN (Scene), Magic (filters) and two custom positions – C1 and C2. So while the Nikon AW1 has a bigger sensor, allowing it to deliver lower noise at higher sensitivities, the TG-2 can more easily deploy low sensitivities thanks to its brighter lens and optical stabilisation. To test the stabilisation I zoomed the lens to its maximum 100mm equivalent focal length and took a sequence of shots at different shutter speeds first with the stabilisation turned off, then with it enabled. The TOUGH TG-2’s lens is optically stabilised, stabilisation can be turned on or off from the setting menu. So there’s much less in it between these two sensors than the JPEGs would suggest, but the EOS M’s kit lens looks to be a better perfromer, at the wide angle setting at least, than the E-PL5’s In crops one and four, from closer to the middle of the frame, there’s really very little to tell them apart, though the PEN E-PL5 crops look to be a little bit noisier. The sensor is doing an excellent job, let down slightly by the quality of the 14-42mm kit lens at the edge of the frame, at least at the wide angle setting. The E-PL5’s original metering didn’t over-expose the image, but exposure compensation was applied to produce visually similar results for comparison. The higher quality ingredients used at proper dosages, the more effective that pre-workout will be.
