Our Story Join Our Pizza Journey

Springfield guarantees the rifle will shoot sub-one-inch three-shot groups at 50 yards using match-grade ammo. I once heard a well-known competitive shooter say that the rimfire game is more about the ammo than the rifle. I took the action out of the stock (per the instructions in the user’s manual), and used an Allen wrench to adjust a screw on the front of the trigger. Despite their being among the most useful tools in a gun owner’s arsenal, new bolt-action .22s have been more or less absent from the market in recent years. It boasts advanced features such as a Christensen Arms Carbon Tension Barrel, a 0-MOA top Picatinny rail, a small yet adequate bolt handle, dual extractors, and compatibility with Ruger 10/22 magazines. I had just a couple of instances at my NRL22 match where the rifle jammed, and the magazine didn’t freely eject. My only issue with this rifle was that after shooting suppressed the gun got rather gummed up. I was stacked against competitors with rifles mostly 3-5 times more expensive than this rifle. Now, I have a crisp, single-stage trigger set at exactly 2.5 pounds. Springfield engineers knew that everyone has a 10/22, so rather than grab some extra cash by introducing their own proprietary magazine, they let hunters use what they already have. First, all Model 2020 Rimfire guns use 10-round rotary magazines compatible with Ruger 10/22 mags. The gun I have is a AA walnut, and it’s a beautiful shooting iron. The fact that we had zero issues with the rifle’s function over many hundreds of rounds speaks volumes about the Model 2020 Rimfire’s quality. The rifle’s 7 ¾-pound weight is well balanced between the hands, though with the suppressor attached it was a bit muzzle heavy. That alone will likely convince many shooters who’ve already heavily invested in the 10/22 ecosystem to give this new rifle a try. There’s a lot to like about this rifle, starting with its price tag. There are also four wood-stocked versions, which are differentiated by the grade of wood used. My rifle also featured Christensen’s tungsten Cerakote finish on the bottom two-thirds of the receiver and black Cerakote on the receiver top and rail. The barrel was threaded at ½”x28 TPI for a suppressor, with a thread protector provided. The MPR Rimfire is built around a lightweight, billet aluminum chassis, with the barrel shrouded by an M-LOK compatible carbon fiber handguard.
  • I had a rimfire spinner and dueling-tree target set up at 50 yards and did a series of drills transitioning from one to the next.
  • Aguila Super Extra and CCI subsonic small game loads also gave me groups of 0.75 inches across the board.
  • Over lots of shooting, the MPR Rimfire consistently shot sub-MOA groups with premium ammunition and excelled in an NRL22 match, helping me place 8th out of 23 in my first ever rimfire competition.

  • Despite the different profiles, both the Target and the Classic models come with a one-inch at 50 yards accuracy guarantee.

  • The rifle’s bolt worked smoothly, and the dual extractors easily flung out the empty brass.

(Ultraverse Premiere#1/1) - Thepolice and then the army attacked, with Chi'arr controlling McKinney'sbody, now one as Ripfire, as he dodged bullets and fired his energybolts from his alien bow. The first thing you’ll notice about the rifle is a very sturdy polymer stock. The Model 2020 Rimfire Target has a sturdy polymer scock, a dual-extractor bolt, and a Remington Model 700-style trigger. Plus, the light trigger allows for accurate shots from whatever weird field positions you might try your luck. After shooting five groups, I had a tough time deciphering which shots went with which group. Aguila Super Extra and CCI subsonic small game loads also gave me groups of 0.75 inches across the board. You could also play around with different magazines, as there are many to choose from in the 10/22 world. Should you have a jam, its pretty easy to clear with the extended magazine release. I did have a couple of feeding problems with my test rifle, but it was mostly ammo dependent. My biggest group measured .99 inch with the American Eagle ammo, while the best groups measured .56 with Aguila Subsonic and .59 with CCI Standard. An extended magazine release comes standard, and the rifle accepts Ruger 10/22-style magazines, which are very easy to find. The rifle is matte blued, which is durable enough for what it’s designed for, and it has a 4140 high-polish steel bolt. I’ve shot a Model 2020 Waypoint centerfire, and the stock does feel very similar. Most rifles have a 13.5-inch length of pull, which is basically identical to the 13.45-inch length of pull Springfield gave the 2020 Rimfire. The rifles ship with two of the 10-round rotary magazines. If you can’t tolerate shooting a trigger that heavy you can upgrade to something like a TriggerTech Primary or Timney Elite Hunter, since the stock trigger has a Remington 700 footprint. Springfield says they are shipping the 2020 Rimfire rifles with the trigger set at or near the lightest pull weight. The author shot the 2020 Rimfire from the bench and various field positions. The bolt features dual extractors, and it runs smoothly. It has a slight palm swell, and overall feels like a rifle made for a grown-up. It’s the kind of stock that would put some polymer centerfire stocks to shame.

Still, I wouldn’t have a problem taking this rifle to a precision rimfire match out of the box. At one point I put the rifle in the hands of a novice shooter, and she was able to hit 2-inch steel plates at 50 yards almost every time. However, the Springfield magazine that comes with the rifle is put together very well.

The Spencer Pump: America’s First Pump-Action Shotgun

Just before the bolt completes its rearward travel in the action, the base of the brass runs into the fixed steel ejector, which is incorporated into the trigger guard assembly. Unlike a traditional centerfire two-lug action, this rifle’s lugs are located at the rear of the receiver and are integrated into the bolt handle. The short bolt lift and well-designed internals of the action let the shooter work the rifle without hesitation. The average 5-shot group size we recorded at 50 yards was 1.071 inches, which makes this a deadly adversary for tin cans, steel targets, ground squirrels, rabbits, and gophers. But if you’re looking at the Target model, they’re not that much cheaper. The SK Match loads posted a 0.45-inch group and averaged just a hair over a half-inch. But it was the only negative experience I had using the rifle, so I thought it deserved a mention. It’s tucked just forward of the trigger guard and takes a fair amount of force to operate. The Sporter model is also fitted with a low-profile mag release that may be a little too low profile. A feature on some rimfire bolt guns is the incorporation of two extractors on the bolt face. The bolt is a hefty piece of chromed steel that is naturally slick and glides easily in the receiver no matter how grimy the action gets. Sometimes a short bolt throw can cause an action to be more difficult to run because the motion required to cock the action has to be accomplished with a shorter movement. When the bolt is rotated into battery the lugs bear up against surfaces machined into the receiver to lock the action tight. This rifle accomplishes the most important thing any rimfire can do—turn little charges of gunpowder into smiles. That measured 1.603 inches, with 17 of the shots in a 1.079-inch cluster. In any event, my rifle had no issues meeting that standard with 5-shot groups, which is a more demanding threshold than 3-shot groups. Despite the different profiles, both the Target and the Classic models come with a one-inch at 50 yards accuracy guarantee. Thanks to the beefier barrel contour on the Target, the rifle weighs a full 20 ounces more than the Classic. On the Classic, a flush magazine release sits between the trigger guard and the magazine. If I were using this as an “understudy” practice rifle, I would install the identical brand of trigger used in my centerfire, tuned to the same release weight. As Ripfire, he was armed with a bow that shot out energyblasts, and also carried a long-handled sacred blade. “Fantastic pizza, people, and place…and very quick! “The Heat Wave pizza was unbelievable! They allowed us to customize our specialty pizza for no extra charge and the beers on tap were ice cold. There’s nothing revolutionary in this rifle’s design—but it doesn’t need that to be considered a homerun. If the trigger could be turned down to 2.5 pounds, the 2020 Rimfire would be the complete package. The quality of the rifle’s workmanship only adds to the notion that your money is well spent. It is an eminently fun rifle to shoot and is quite capable taking on any type of task you could ask of a gun that costs less than $500. This is a longer way to say that a rifle’s accuracy is not simply dependent on how well the rifle is manufactured. You can see the seam where the two halves of the stock were joined together, but the line is faint. The amount of flex in the stock is minimal, adding to its grown-up feel. Springfield also equipped the stock with two sling swivel studs to attach a sling or carrying strap. Springfield says that might render the rifle unsafe to operate. Don’t attempt to lighten the trigger below a 4-pound break weight. Rotating the adjustment screw clockwise will increase the weight of the trigger pull. Personally, I see no reason to mess with it and go heavier, but if you wanted to there’s an adjustment screw located on the front of the trigger housing. Springfield Armory equipped the 2020 Rimfire with a Remington 700 pattern user-adjustable trigger. I shot an NRL22 match where I was able to successfully engage targets out to 320 yards. Between the carbon fiber barrel and handguard, there is hardly any foreword weight making this rifle very maneuverable. The Christensen Arms Carbon Tension Barrel utilizes tension barrel technology, crafted from a 416R button-rifled, lapped barrel blank. TriggerTech makes exceptional triggers, and the single-stage variant used in this rifle has no takeup and a crisp break. Pushing the lever forward puts the rifle into the Fire position, which will be muscle memory for many users. I chose these mounts since they put the scope in line with my field of vision, with the stock appropriately mounted to the shoulder. A fixed ejector sits inside the receiver, just to the rear of the magazine’s feed lips. The bolt uses dual extractors, one on either side of the bolt body. The bolt throw on the 2020 Rimfire series is a short 60 degrees. Home These two rifles make a great example of how velocities can vary from barrel to barrel. Although I enjoyed shooting the Target model, it was the walnut-stocked Classic that got me excited. Although both the Target and Classic models wear 20-inch matte blue barrels, the profiles are different. The 2020 Rimfire is a bolt-action repeater that feeds from a detachable rotary magazine. Even with the five-shot groups, Springfield can stand behind its guarantee. I took five-shot groups, as this is a more demanding test of accuracy. Everything about this rifle is user-friendly and solid with excellent fit-and-finish and a ton of quality for the money. The short release tab in front of the trigger guard is easy to engage with your trigger finger, and when you do that the magazine drops free like poop from a seagull. And the bolt face never failed to strip a round from the rotary magazine’s steel feed lips during its forward journey into battery. Nonetheless the rifle glided from one target to the next during rapid fire drills. I had a rimfire spinner and dueling-tree target set up at 50 yards and did a series of drills transitioning from one to the next.
  • Springfield also equipped the stock with two sling swivel studs to attach a sling or carrying strap.
  • The most outwardly striking difference between the Target and Classic models is the stock.
  • Next I zeroed the rifle before shooting five, 5-shot groups at 50 yards with five different kinds of ammo.
  • I took the action out of the stock (per the instructions in the user’s manual), and used an Allen wrench to adjust a screw on the front of the trigger.

  • My rifle also featured Christensen’s tungsten Cerakote finish on the bottom two-thirds of the receiver and black Cerakote on the receiver top and rail.
Springfield Armory designed this action with dual cocking surfaces, spreading that effort over two cocking ramps rather than one. The rear surface of the bolt handle is one lug, and a small, raised bump on the off-side of the bolt-handle assembly is the other. The Model 2020 Rimfire has a two-lug bolt with a compact 60-degree throw. The empties always launched clear in an energetic manner, especially when the bolt was run with zeal. The Most Dangerous Shotgun Ever Made: Winchester’s Model 1911 SL I even took a 10-shot group with the Aguila, emptying an entire magazine, and it came in at just .79 inches. Springfield guarantees their rifle will shoot three-shot groups of 1 inch or less at 50 yards. The magazine release works flawlessly, the bolt is smooth, the safety snaps back and forth positively, and the trigger—while a bit heavy—is consistent. For target shooting—which this Target model is obviously meant for—the extra weight is helpful. Testing the Springfield Armory Model 2020 Rimfire Target Rifle In the Field Two are Target Rifles with synthetic stocks—one that’s plain black for $434 and the one I tested in Sage Green for $499. If you’ve been eyeing up a rimfire trainer or just want a really accurate 22 to shoot, I highly recommend the Model 2020 Rimfire. Should you really have an issue with the trigger, you can upgrade with a number of Remington 700 triggers on the market. The trigger on the Waypoint is a bit stiff, but it is consistent. With the two base synthetic target models at $434 and $499 depending on stock color, the rifle is within reach of most shooters. The rifle is available in .17 HMR, .22 LR, and .22 WMR chamberings, with barrel lengths running for 16- to 20-inches. Because, if those basement-dwelling creatures were honest, they’d then have to admit even the slightest twitch of the rifle or the tiniest hitch in trigger pull, and one can forget a half-inch group. A guarantee like that can get social media trolls scoffing at a 0.70-inch group of five shots at this distance and even claim the rifle a disaster should it peg a few 1-inch groups. Learn about the exceptional accuracy of the Christensen Arms MPR .22 LR Rimfire bolt-action rifle. From the factory, the MPR Rimfire comes with one 10-round Ruger rotary magazine, an Allen wrench, gun oil, ear plugs, a sticker, target-proving sub-MOA groups from 50 yards, and an owner’s manual. However, unlike the original MPR, the MPR Rimfire utilizes Ruger® 10/22 magazines and is chambered in rimfire calibers such as .22 LR, .22 WMR, and .17 HMR. Both models share a robust 7075 billet aluminum chassis, lightweight design, and folding stock, enhancing portability and functionality. With the CCI Standard Velocity 40-grain load, both rifles met the advertised accuracy standard. Both rifles were suitably accurate, easy to operate and 100 percent reliable. Both rifles were tested for accuracy at 50 yards in calm wind conditions. I am pleased that it chose to enter the bolt-action rimfire market and believe the 2020 Rimfire is a series of rifles befitting of the storied company name. The Springfield Armory 2020 Rimfire .22 LR bolt-action rifle series comes in a Target version with synthetic stock and a Classic model in walnut. With virtually no recoil, minimal blast, comfortable stock dimensions and good triggers, the rifles were a pleasure to shoot.

Equipped with dual extractors, the rifle is designed for reliably extracting spent cartridges. The rifle also supports AR-style grips, providing versatility in grip options, with the included Magpul MOE-K grip offering a minimalist yet functional choice. Additionally, the front of the magwell features a machined barricade stop with a “flat” surface, offering a stable point of contact for shooting from barricades or other surfaces. The MPR Rimfire includes a magwell tailored for Ruger 10/22 magazines, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of existing options.
  • There’s nothing revolutionary in this rifle’s design—but it doesn’t need that to be considered a homerun.
  • The bolt is also sort of a rectangular shape which I thought was interesting, but it works and helps decrease weight while still getting the job done.
  • While 5-round groups naturally exhibit slightly larger variations compared to cherry-picked 3-round groups, they provide a more comprehensive assessment of the rifle’s performance with different types of ammo.
  • In the hand, this rifle feels more like a centerfire than a rimfire.
  • Rimfire-appropriate Leupold scopes were mounted to each rifle.
  • The SK Match loads posted a 0.45-inch group and averaged just a hair over a half-inch.

One, I could adjust the parallax, which makes close shots easier and more precise. The wide, serrated single-stage trigger on the Classic broke very cleanly at 4.1 pounds while the Target model broke at 3.5. There is a receiver mounted bolt stop at the nine o’clock position of the action. The 10-round rotary magazine used on the 2020 Rimfire models is cross-compatible with magazines intended for use in the Ruger 10/22. Being a round action, it is straightforward to manufacture and simple to bed into a stock. Since I usually hunt with a bolt-action sporter, I often head to the range before the fall season with a .22 bolt gun and a few hundred practice rounds. The stock is also compatible with standard AR grips and includes six QD mounts, making it a versatile and highly functional part of the MPR Rimfire. With a 1″ adjustable riser range and a length of pull adjustable from 12.5″ to 14.5″, it can be precisely tailored to fit your size and shooting style. Built on a durable 7075 aluminum billet chassis, the stock includes an FFT™ carbon fiber cheek riser, offering a robust yet lightweight foundation. Ideally, a rimfire rifle will be identical to a centerfire when it comes to the cycling of the bolt and the manipulation of the safety lever. There is no substitute for live-fire trigger time, and a rimfire allows me to get in those reps with minimal cost and extensive barrel life. Semiautos are seemingly everywhere, but look around for a mid-price premium rimfire bolt gun, particularly one with a wood stock, and you won’t have much luck. Over lots of shooting, the MPR Rimfire consistently shot sub-MOA groups with premium ammunition and excelled in an NRL22 match, helping me place 8th out of 23 in my first ever rimfire competition. Fast cooked pizza. Excellent pizza, they have tapioca/rice base pizza, lots of topping options, really well cooked crispy pizza base, didn’t taste like cardboard. We ordered the other pizzas for the family members that are not GF and our GF daughter had to eat leftovers at home. They don’t have any separate ingredients so they would have to pull all fresh ingredients from the back so it takes awhile. My daughter had a gluten free pepperoni pizza. (I didn’t want to forfeit our dinner reservation across the street!) Advised that it would soon be ready, it eventually arrived, and I dove in to what I would describe as one scrumptious pizza. My pizza seemed to be taking too long to make it my way, and I went back to the counter to see if they had lost my number. They gave me a number and I casually retreated through their large spacious indoor room to a spot on the narrow patio where I enjoyed the fresh Florida air while I watched the passersby. Ripfire was the first place I’ve seen that touts both pizza and pork, and to be honest, these are two things I have no desire to experience in a common setting. The stock on my rifle is finished in a sage colored coating featuring black webbing. By designing the action to run on 10/22 compatible magazines, Springfield Armory upped the appeal of this .22. And when torquing the rear action screw apply no more than 15 inch-pounds. Springfield Armory says when reassembling a 2020 Rimfire to tighten the action screw in front of the mag well first and not to exceed 35 inch-pounds. While you may take a single shot all year at a whitetail or an elk, the squirrel woods give you the chance to hone your skills by taking multiple shots from various field positions. The bolt handle on the Target version is a tactical-style, oversize knob while the Classic uses a more traditional rounded knob. The bolt is made from 4140 steel and features a bright chrome body and a matte blue handle. The tubular receiver on the 2020 Rimfire is made from chrome-moly steel and measures 1.14 inches in diameter. The Lapua Center-X did the job, too, with three groups right at 0.50 inches, while the SK Long Range Match notched a 0.45- and a 0.30-inch group. The Life and Times of the Savage Model 99, One of America’s Greatest Lever-Action Rifles

In the hand, this rifle feels more like a centerfire than a rimfire. I also shot the rifle from various positions and from barricades, and I took it on a woods walk to see how it would feel to carry around while hunting. Two, more rimfire competition shooters are using first-focal-plane target scopes and dialing turrets for matches. However, suppressed rimfire rifles are very dirty, and this issue is not unique to this rifle. While the heavier rifles they were using would be ideal for long-range competition shooting, this lightweight MPR Rimfire can do it all. Shooting CCI Green Tag ammo with 40-grain round nose bullets, my rifle averaged 1.071 inches over eight 5-shot groups. The MPR Rimfire utilizes a flat-faced Remington 700 compatible TriggerTech trigger factory set to 3.4 lbs. While there is no top Picatinny rail, the slimmed-down profile is a great option for this lightweight bolt gun. While I would prefer to see a 20-MOA rail machined into the action, I never had the top rail work loose during testing. The bolt is also sort of a rectangular shape which I thought was interesting, but it works and helps decrease weight while still getting the job done. Additionally, the chassis incorporates V-block bedding, providing a solid and repeatable interface between the action and the chassis. Using a billet aluminum chassis ensures a robust and consistent platform, a key component for maintaining the rifle’s accuracy and stability. Built from 7075 aluminum, the chassis serves as the backbone of this rifle, providing a lightweight yet durable foundation.

To get to it you need to remove the action from the stock by loosening the guard screws. Now, the trigger that the rifle comes with is no great shakes.
