Strong science shows that high protein diets can help people feel full, eat less, and lose body fat while preserving resting metabolic rate and preventing loss of muscle mass.73 Although they were allowed to eat as much as they wanted, they ended up averaging 500 fewer calories per day than their baseline diet.44In some studies, people have lost significantly more weight with a vegan approach compared to other higher carb diets.
