This may only translate to a few percent differences for most, but can rapidly snowball for those who achieve massive weight loss. So, when we start losing weight, we may unconsciously start moving less as a “behavioral adaptation” to conserve energy. With whole-food, plant-based eating, there may be no need for portion control or counting calories because most plant foods are naturally nutrient dense and low in calories. A dietary quality index was developed that simply reflects the percentage of calories people derive from nutrient-rich, unprocessed plant foods on a scale of 0 to 100. That doesn’t happen, because the heavier he is, the more calories he burns just existing. So, the basic upkeep and movement of thinner bodies takes fewer calories.
