A small study assigned middle-aged men with type 2 diabetes to either an eight-week HIIT training program or a control group. A 12-year study showed decreased rates of obesity in people who followed the principles of a Mediterranean diet.⁶ The Mediterranean diet is high in vegetables, fruits, whole grains, beans, nuts, seeds, fish, and olive oil. It probably sounds counterproductive to encourage someone to consume healthy fats when they’re trying to lose weight, right? Healthy sleeping patterns combined with a good diet and exercise can help you lose weight in no time. In fact, a May 2020 meta-analysis in Advances in Nutrition5 found that eating above the RDA of protein helped people in a hypocaloric state (i.e., dieting) was especially helpful in preserving lean muscle mass while losing fat. If you’re feeling a bit weary about weight loss supplements, there are safer alternatives you can try. They are genetically designed to have a higher percentage of muscle and less fat -- which works in favor of keeping them fit and allowing them to eat more calories. "I also advise everyone to divide their eating plans equally so that one-third of their calories is eaten before lunch." While fiber-rich, carbohydrate foods like fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and legumes aid in weight loss, refined carbohydrates (white bread, for example) and added sugar hinder weight and fat loss. Vitamin B12 deficiency is a condition occurring from a lack of B12 from diet, alcohol abuse, surgery, and certain medical conditions (24). In fact, one study found that a 10-gram increase in soluble fiber daily led to a 3.7% lower risk of gaining belly fat (21). Studies show that having a higher intake of soluble fiber can help you shed belly fat and prevent belly fat gain. It also promotes satiety, or feelings of fullness, which reduces food intake. “It’s a full-body movement that combines strength by pushing yourself up off the ground, plyometrics with a jump, and cardio as the heart rate will elevate quickly and stay up as you continue to burpee. Ultimately, your weight isn’t about a number on a scale; it’s about your overall well-being and feeling comfortable in your own skin. “Pull-ups are a movement often used as a test of upper-body strength, and rightfully so. This is one reason why high fiber diets are often recommended as sustainable weight loss plans for men, including the DASH (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension), Weight Watchers, and South Beach diets. But any diet can be made into a high protein diet by simply focusing on including protein-rich foods.
