Therefore, penile prosthesis surgery does not decrease penile size and may indirectly help the penis grow larger. One of the most common complaints of patients after penile prosthesis implantation is that their erection is perceived as smaller than their natural erectile memory. In the 400 patients, the medial circumference increased from a mean of 8.5 ± 1.2 to 13.4 ± 1.9 cm. However, 47, 12, 10, 8, 7, 4, and 3 patients experienced erectile discomfort, delayed healing, insignificant enhancement, wound hematoma, foreskin edema, wound infection, and dorsal skin necrosis, respectively. Expanding this model into preferences pertaining to other domains, or even for other penis shape preferences, appears desirable. With these advancements, penis enlargement surgery might become safer and more effective, benefiting from new technologies such as gene editing, stem cell therapy, nanotechnology, 3D printing, and mature biotissue engineering. Ingenuity and device innovation are vital to technological surgical advances that can produce a more sustainable improved quality of life for patients. According to our study population, micropenis is defined as penile measurements below the 5th percentile, i.e., a flaccid penis length less than or equal to 7 cm, a flaccid circumference less than or equal to 7 cm and a stretched penile length less than or equal to 10 cm. For an average 14-cm estimate (based on a previous exploratory study) with a 95% confidence interval (CI) between 13.82 cm and 14.17 cm, the inclusion of 800 patients was deemed necessary. Suction lipectomy, or liposuction, is considered inadequate to treat a buried penis unless it is used in conjunction with suprapubic lipectomy (52). The shaft skin can be closed with a skin graft taken from the lateral thigh, or from the removed mons pubis skin to avoid a donor site (51). This can be combined with removal of diseased shaft skin, which may be inflammatory due to the buried condition and chronic infections. A STUDY APTLY published right after Valentines Day in The World Journal of Men's Health found that the average penis length has increased a whopping 24 percent over the last three decades. Mean (standard deviation SD) flaccid penis length was 9.47 (2.69), mean (SD) flaccid penis circumference was 9.59 (3.08), mean (SD) erect penis length was 16.78 (2.55) and mean (SD) erect penis circumference was 12.03 (3.82). Perhaps these women did not have a clear preference, consistent with weak penis size preferences reported in some previous studies 54, 65. Also, a significant minority (15 of 75) of women chose not to report a preference for penis size in short and long term partners, but did answer both of the recall questions. In the male population, penile size is gaining importance together with the length, and the number of patients needing andrological investigation is increasing (Mondaini et al., 2002; Singal & Jain, 2016). The aim of the present study was to evaluate the size of the penis in flaccidity and in erection of Italian men. Also, this study provides the first data on the accuracy of women’s penis size judgments. Penuma® is a soft silicone subcutaneous implant placed on 3/4 of the penile shaft and fixed to the glans with a polyester mesh . Penile oedema up to 27%, painful erection up to 27%, and curvature due to graft fibrosis up to 9% have been reported. All men undergoing penile elongation surgery with an SPL within normal limits, should undergo psychiatric evaluation (21). At that time, it was felt that only men with a flaccid length of less than 4 cm or a SPL of less than 7.5 cm should be considered candidates for penile lengthening (10). Most academic urologists have moved away from treatments such as penile elongation and therefore this has become strictly a market in the private sector (14). Multiple scales and nomograms have been created by researchers to reassure patients that their length is normal. In both of these disorders, men consistently underestimate the size of their own penis and overestimate the mean size for other men (16). 6. Tissue engineering with biodegradable scaffolds Levine’s group has studied the use of traction devices in men with Peyronie’s disease and have shown improvement in patient satisfaction post-operatively after the use of PTD (33). Limitations of these studies included non-validated patient satisfaction questionnaires, small patient populations, and selection bias (14). They concluded that penile extender devices seem to be non-inferior to surgery (32). One of the largest is that of Herbenick et.al that evaluated the erect penis size of 1661 sexually active men in the USA. The percentage distributions by geographical area are shown in the Supplementary Tables S1–S4 and divided into patients above and below the median with reference to penis size (Figures 2, 3). Each patient was given detailed and illustrated directions on how to measure their penis (erect length and circumference) in flaccidity and in erection, from the lower base to the distal penile tip.
